like psychotherapy without the talking

I’ve struggled with my elevator pitch for craniosacral therapy. How do you describe something that is a bit indescribable? Many explanations are off the “woo” chart. Others use too many SAT words. My go-to one liner is:

Craniosacral therapy opens up the tap valve on our body’s ability to heal itself

Be honest, what do you think?

Each person’s experience of craniosacral is different. Each session is different. My artist friend always sees colors behind her eyes.  I never do. I will feel waves of energy moving through my body. I feel deeply relaxed. I can feel my body more, and feel more at home within it.

I’d like everyone to experience this healing modality. Describing it well would help. (It would also help if insurance companies would cover it, but that’s another newsletter!)

To help me, I asked my clients to describe craniosacral therapy in one sentence. This is what they said:

Craniosacral re-balances me in body and in mind

A magical elixir to my frayed nerves.

Like the deepest warmest bath that unwound something so tight I didn’t know it was there!

It's an opportunity to sink deeper and deeper into relaxation and rest while learning how to trust my body again

Craniosacral therapy helps my mind, body and soul to breathe on the same rhythm

It’s like pressing a pressure release valve on the body so things can flow better

In a world that encourages you to ignore your body and just have it serve you, craniosacral allows your body to speak to you

It gives my nervous system permission to quiet down, which allows my body to focus on healing rather than constantly protecting itself

Craniosacral therapy connects me to healing power within my own mind and body

Craniosacral therapy gentle opens up past wounds, helps me process current adversities, and heal

It taps into parts of me that I didn't know existed and helps balance my life

In a cranio session, your body is literally held in such deep quiet and calm that really subtle internal shifts can be felt

Like psychotherapy but without the talking

cranio helps to move energy through my body, specifically areas of pain

It encourages me to focus on what I'm feeling in my entire body as well as a very specific part of my body, and notice what is coming up mentally as I focus on different pain points, which strengthens the mind-body connection

A nervous system refresh

It's very deep and potent, yet gentle at the same time

I think everyone did a great job. Have you tried craniosacral? How would you describe it?
